Yates Mill — Raleigh, NC

Historic Yates Mill

I am a big fan of old mills, and old buildings generally, so I took a drive out to Raleigh to check out the Yates Mill off of Lake Wheeler Road.  Even though the weather was gloomy, I got some nice shots of the mill, especially the spillway and the millrace.  I also had an equally nice walk around the millpond, which was surprisingly quiet and peaceful, given the buzz of the city surrounding this nostalgic park.

Loving this set Mark. The water adds another element to your already great decay style.

Found your site while cruising the web for sites containing information on water-powered mills. I am fortunate to live about 10 miles from a farm having two (grist and saw). The saw mill has been restored and is run several times a week except during the winter months. The grist mill was completely disassembled last year, and restoration work is in process.

Thanks for the comment! I have traveled all over central and eastern NC looking for old mills (grist in particular). I am hoping to put together a mill/covered bridge tour of Western NC at some point when I have time. There’s just something really fundamentally interesting about mills for me.
