Old Chapel Hill Cemetery
Today I had a rare opportunity to get out of the house, by myself, without Isaac or Hanna. Nana was happy to watch Isaac, so I stole out of the house and took advantage of the good light. I’m not sure if it’s the week I’ve had, or the mood I was in today, but I wanted to go somewhere tranquil, and solemn to shoot. I wanted some gravitas, something to root me in the present, and to shake some of the recent tension and stress loose.
I headed to the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery, which features a wide range of weathered headstones, memorials, and other markers of the recent and long dead. Being there on an early summer evening, with the birds singing in the trees and the sun rays casting a warm golden light on everything, I felt at peace with things for a moment.
I was happy just to be there, with my camera, paying homage to strangers who have come before me, enjoying their quiet company.
