Playing to Our Strengths
I have posted some of my wife Hanna’s handiwork in the past, but many times, we forget to take photos of the packaging she makes before we send photos off to their final destinations. Such was the case again this time, but fortunately Samantha, the featured bride, took some photos of the packaging for us when it arrived.
For each wedding I shoot, Hanna and I try to include personal, handmade touches in the product we ultimately deliver. Hanna, who says she wishes she was creative, is actually extremely crafty, thoughtful, and a perfectionist. For Jeff and Sam, we included the repeated bison and narwhal motif because it is long-running between them. The animals featured as cake toppers and served as the web address for their wedding website.
Hanna found California themed Origami paper that she decoupaged to the box, and then added personal, handmade touches that suited the packaging theme. My contribution, aside from the discs of my images, is a favorite and memorable image from each photoshoot, hand-printed on cotton rag fine art paper.
I feel that these personal touches add value to your product. They provide a unique keepsake box, and communicate the particular care with which I approach each wedding I photograph. Also, in this digital age where photos are often never printed and instead shown only in online galleries across social media, I feel especially motivated to include the print–something tangible, and tactile, with which to remember the wedding.
Thanks to Sam and Jeff for having an incredibly memorable and beautiful wedding (photos will be coming soon), and thanks again to Sam for taking these lovely photos of my wife’s handiwork.
Hanna and I definitely play to our respective strengths and use them to create final products that we are very proud of. Our goal is for each of my clients to receive something that is memorable, personal, and unique, from the outside all the way in.
