From One Extreme to Another

If a Rebel XTi with the 18-55 kit lens is one of the “lowest” points on Canon’s totem pole, then surely a 5DmkII with some pro lenses on it is one of the highest.  And I’m not going to debate that.  Due to a series of coincidences, I have ended up with a treasure trove of Canon gear–4 bodies in my possession right now, with my usual host of lenses.  I recently asked Canon Professional Services for a loaner 5DmkII to evaluate, and now it’s here, along with the XTi that I have borrowed and have been having great fun with.

I’m not going to sit here and tell you all how much better the 5DmkII with a 35 f/1.4L lens is than the Rebel XTi with a kit lens.  The difference is real, but it’s not mind-blowing, and it’s still not what matters when you’re trying to make a good photograph.

What I am going to do is post some photos that I’ve taken with the 5DmkII while I mull over whether or not it’s going to find a spot in my bag of tools.
